Abstract: This activity will allow the student to look at real-time satellite, radar, and derived imagery to study the growth and development of thunderstorms.
Outcomes:
- Outcome 1- The student will interpret and analyze satellite imagery by locating daily thunderstorm activity.
- Outcome 2- The student will compare satellite images with radar images to determine areas of precipitation and their relationship to thunderstorm development.
- Outcome 3 - The student will be able to explain the energy transfer occurring during the formation, maturation, and dissipation of a thunderstorm.
- Outcome 4 - (extension) The student will calculate the growth of a thunderstorm over time to determine the rapid transfer of energy from the surface of the earth upward into the cumulonimbus cloud.
