Abstract:
This meteorology activity compares annual rainfall in the West Sahel to hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean. Students will decide if rainfall averages- below normal, average, or above average, is a valid indicator of hurricane activity in the Atlantic, and write a paragraph to defend their position on if they feel that rainfall in Africa is an indicator of hurricane activity in the Atlantic.

Outcome:

• compare data for two groups by representing their distribution
• look for patterns in data.
• use computers to produce tables, graphs, and spreadsheet calculations.
• explain the role of natural forces on earth.
• research topics of current concern with regard to climate.

Suggested Grade Level & Duration:

Grades 5-8; 1 to 2 sixty-minute periods.

 

Materials:
